Mumford diagnosticou a \u201ccompuls\u00e3o tecnol\u00f3gica\u201d &#8211; uma condi\u00e7\u00e3o na qual \u201ca sociedade se submete humildemente \u00e0s exig\u00eancias tecnol\u00f3gicas e as utiliza sem questionar os novos produtos&#8221;. O indiv\u00edduo torna-se assim \u201cobsoleto\u201d e psicologicamente dependente de uma variedade de dispositivos. Reduzido a um \u201cacess\u00f3rio trivial da m\u00e1quina\u201d, transforma-se num elemento passivo, atrav\u00e9s da vigil\u00e2ncia t\u00e9cnica e da recolha ilimitada de dados pelos dispositivos tecnol\u00f3gicos, que ignoram as necessidades e valores reais da vida humana, produzindo um mundo adequado apenas \u00e0 subsist\u00eancia das m\u00e1quinas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Em alternativa \u00e0 inevitabilidade da tecnolatria, Mumford defende a hip\u00f3tese de uma \u201crevolu\u00e7\u00e3o negativa\u201d &#8211; resist\u00eancia, recusa, interrup\u00e7\u00e3o &#8211; atrav\u00e9s da qual os indiv\u00edduos poderiam reivindicar a sua autonomia, desejos e escolhas, ou pelo menos, exercer o seu direito aut\u00f3nomo de recusa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A obra \u201cShade Shadows\u201d prop\u00f5e pensar nesta rela\u00e7\u00e3o entre a recusa e a interrup\u00e7\u00e3o, fazendo prevalecer o erro (o causado e n\u00e3o o ocasional), a imperfei\u00e7\u00e3o, o incontrol\u00e1vel e o org\u00e2nico para criar imagens b\u00e1sicas e simples, nunca negando a tecnolatria mas sim agindo, alterando e \u201ccolaborando\u201d com o seu pr\u00f3prio interior, como forma de intervir e questionar a sua reg\u00eancia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>EN\/\/<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In The Myth of the Machine, Lewis Mumford has shown how centralized power systems used technical means to the bureaucratic regimentation and military of the human populations, to implement organizational and social control protocols. Mumford diagnosed the technological compulsion &#8211; a condition to which \u201cthe society humbly submits itself to a new technological demand and uses it without questioning each new product\u201d. The individual becomes \u201cobsolete\u201d and psychologically dependent on a new variety of gadgets. He is, in this way, a \u201ctrivial accessory to the machine\u201d, reduced to a passive through technical vigilance and unlimited data collection by technological gadgets, which are oblivious to the necessities and real values of human life, producing an adequate world where only machines subsist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In alternative to the inevitability of technolatry, Mumford defends the hypothesis of a \u201cnegative revolution&#8221; &#8211; resistance, refusal, withdrawal &#8211; through which the individuals could vindicate their autonomy, desires and choices, or at least, hold their autonomous right of refusing. Enquanto artista visual tem realizado, desde 1999, diversas exposi\u00e7\u00f5es individuais e coletivas tanto em Portugal como no estrangeiro tais como THEM OR US! Um Projeto de Fic\u00e7\u00e3o Cient\u00edfica, Social e Pol\u00edtica&#8217;, Galeria Municipal do Porto (2017); Touch me: It&#8217;s about time!, Galerija Klovi\u0107evi dvori, Zagreb (2014). Desenvolve projetos ligados \u00e0 sound art, com diversos concertos e apresenta\u00e7\u00f5es. Tem colaborado em diversos projetos audiovisuais para teatro e dan\u00e7a contempor\u00e2nea. Licenciou-se em Escultura na FBAUL (1998), fez mestrado em Media Art, MECAD &#8211; Universidade de Ramon Llull, Barcelona (2007) e \u00e9 doutorando na Universidade de Belas Artes de Lisboa. Foi docente na Universidade de \u00c9vora entre 2001 e 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>EN\/\/<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Antonio Caramelo lives and works in Oeiras. As a visual artist he has participated in several exhibitions both individually and collectively, in Portugal and abroad such as THEM OR US! a Science Fiction Project, \u201cSocial &amp; Politics\u201d, Oporto Municipal Gallery (2017); Touch Me: It\u2019s about time!, Galerija Klovi\u0107evi dvori, Zagreb (2014). He has been collaborating with different audiovisual projects for theater and contemporary dance. He graduated in Sculpture at FBAUL (1998), did a masters in Media Art, MECAD &#8211; University of Ramon Llull, Barcelona (2007) and has a doctorate at FBAUL.
